Maranello Palace

Maranello

Maranello, city of Ferrari: Maranello embodies the myth of "red cars", the most prestigious car industry in the world was founded here in 1943, a symbol of high technology and passion for the human work, innovation and know how. Maranello is part of the ceramic district: the town centre is between the lowland and the first hills that lead to the Appennino Emiliano.

Under some aspects its landscape looks unreal; the visitor is struck by its gullies and factory chimneys, woods and stretches of tiles, cultivated fields and animal breeding farms in contrast and side by side with high-tech industries.
Maranello Palace located in Via Grizzaga, is in front of the futuristic Galleria del Vento (Wind Tunnel), designed by the architect Renzo Piano, work of art of architectonic and technological value, inaugurated in 1997.

In this innovative structure, full-scale tests are carried out on the Cavallino cars, inside a tunnel equipped with an acclimatisation system for temperature controlling.
On a moving runway, synchronised with the wind speed, the models can simulate any kind of set up and movement.

The Monument to Enzo Ferrari
In 1998 Maranello celebrated the 100th anniversary of Enzo Ferrari’s birth. The monument dedicated to the founder of the “Cavallino Rampante” (Prancing Horse) factory is a record of that celebration and was donated by his son Piero Ferrari to the town. The statue dedicated to the "Drake" is a bronze column, over five meters in height and weighing six thousand kilos, which portrays the most significant moments in Enzo Ferrari's life.
It is situated next to the Town Hall, as milestone of the relationship between the car-producing company and the town of Maranello. The statue was created by the Modenese sculptor Marino Quartieri and is to be found in Piazza Libertà.
The monument to Enzo Ferrari has become one of the most visited places and an imperative stop for fans after each Ferrari victory.

The Enzo Ferrari Auditorium

In January 1999 the Enzo Ferrari Auditorium was inaugurated in Maranello, a multi-functional hall that hosts theatre, cinema and musical shows, conventions, as well as important events linked to Ferrari. Built on the site of the former Cinema Eden (previously a fascist club and then a social club), the Auditorium is the real cultural centre of the town. It has a seating capacity of 454 (324 in the stalls and 130 in the circle), with two independent projection rooms. Outside, the front of the building has maintained its original colours, obtained using lime and natural earth pigments. The entrance is characterised by beautiful flooring in ceramic tiles, on the walls next to the entry to the projection room, Enzo Ferrari's signature has been reproduced (in purple, which was the colour used by Enzo Ferrari), an image of the “Cavallino Rampante” and the coat of arms of the Maranello Town Hall.

The Monument to the "Cavallino Rampante"

The prancing horse is the symbol of Ferrari all over the world. Now it is also a work of art given to the Maranello Town Council by the Albanian sculptor Helidon Xhixha. The statue represents a big horse made of stainless steel, five meters high and weighing 800 kilos. On the 14th October 2003, after the Ferrari's victory in the Formula One Championship, the statue was placed in the centre of the roundabout in Via Grizzaga.
A strategic and suggestive position: the wind tunnel designed by the architect Renzo Piano, the new section of Ferrari factory and Maranello Palace are just a few metres away.
